Training Department – ALC Pipefitting Instructor - 2nd Shift

QP Training (D973) is currently looking for an organized, self-motivated Instructor for the Training School.   This position will report to the Chief of Training and play an integral role in the training and qualification of students requiring initial and refresher training.  While this individual will teach within the Pipefitting Trade ALC, they will also support course work outside the ALCs and safety related course. 

Qualified candidates will have a strong sense of commitment to Safety and Procedure Compliance, be a self-starter and possess strong verbal & written communication skills.  Candidates must also possess the ability to multi-task with a friendly, approachable customer service demeanor and a desire to teach.

Responsibilities & Duties - The responsibilities & duties include but are not limited to: 

• Instructing multiple courses in a variety of topics
• Directing and assessing hands on training with mockups and related exercises
• Enforcing safety rules and regulations in training and during Deck plate audits
• Assessing student performance & identifying nonconformance to policies, procedures and technical documents
• Supporting various course content reviews and related activities
• Conducting assessments as scheduled
• Meeting with HR Business Partners regarding student performance as needed
• Grade tests and quizzes to ensure knowledge capture and understanding of training topics
• Communicate with other Training shifts to advance work and communicate issues
• Supporting special training projects as required

• Support the Training department goals and objectives with other responsibilities as assigned

Work Schedule – The selected candidate will be expected to work the following work schedule:

• 2nd shift hours (3:30pm – 12:00am) with flexibility to adjust hours as necessary to support business need
• Ability to work additional overtime as directed (including weekends)
• The individual must be flexible to support short term training assignments on all shifts as needed
• Ability to travel locally to various training sites.

Requirements

• Possess a High school diploma  
• Have a minimum of 2 years of Pipefitting Trade experience 
• Have a minimum of 2 years of Electric Boat experience 
• Must be able to maneuver throughout the facility and units to support all areas as required
• Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of Groton Operations (Casciano)

Preferred

• Associates degree or certificate
• Prior experience teaching
