Overview

QP Training (D973) is currently looking for an organized, self-motivated Instructor to support needs for the Training School. This position will report to the Chief of Operations Training / Training Supervisor and play an integral role in the training and qualification of students requiring initial and refresher training at Quonset Point. While this individual will teach within their trade, they will also support course work outside their trade discipline specifically, stud welding, fall protection, safety & fire related, nuclear and other general training courses as required.

 

This instructor position will be part of a team, responsible for the training of students at QP.  Qualified candidates will have a strong sense of commitment to Safety and Procedure Compliance, be a self-starter, the ability to work independently and possess strong verbal & written communication skills.  Candidates must also possess the ability to multi-task with a friendly, approachable customer service demeanor and a desire to teach. 

 

Responsibilities & Duties - The responsibilities & duties include but are not limited to:  

  • Instructing multiple courses in a variety of topics including stud welding, fall protection, respirator, tank watch and other general training courses
  • Directing and assessing hands on training with mockups and related exercises
  • Enforcing safety rules and regulations in training and during deck plate audits
  • Assessing student performance & identifying nonconformance to policies, procedures and technical documents
  • Supporting various course content reviews and related activities
  • Conducting assessments as scheduled
  • Meeting with HR Business Partners regarding student performance as needed
  • Consistently grade tests and quizzes to ensure knowledge capture and understanding of training topics
  • Communicate with other Training shifts to advance work and communicate issues
  • Supporting special training projects as required
  • Support the Training department goals and objectives with other responsibilities as assigned

 

Work Schedule – The selected candidate will be expected to work the following work schedule:

  • General 2nd shift hours (3:30pm – 12:00am) with flexibility to adjust hours to support 3rd shift and occasional 1st shift as necessary to support business need. Including short term training assignments on all shifts as needed
  • Ability to work additional overtime as directed (including weekends)

Qualifications

Required:

  • Possess a High school diploma (minimum)
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of Paint & Sound Dampening experience
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of Electric Boat experience 
  • Must be able to climb a ladder and don a Safety Harness as required
  • Must be able to wear a respirator
  • Must be able to maneuver throughout the facility and units to support all areas as required
  • Must be able to work the following shifts/hours:

  • Must possess the ability to work additional overtime as directed (including weekends)
  • Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of Groton Operations (Casciano)

Preferred:

  • Prior experience teaching
  • Stud welding experience
  • Nuclear trade experience
  • Associates Degree
