Overview

Occupational Physician General Dynamics Electric Boat

Location: Groton/New London –  reporting to QP Dispensary as needed

 

Overview

Reporting directly to the Electric Boat Medical Director, the Occupational Medicine Physician is responsible for the medical and clinical oversight of patient care for the Groton, New London and offsite medical programs of Electric Boat. Ensuring the use of standardized and consistent medical procedures within the clinics to maintain clinical alignment and scope of practice based on evidence based data.

The Occupational Physician will establish and communicate timely directives, best practices, continuing education, regulatory and medical research updates to clinic staff.

 

Develop and monitor annual medical budget, department goals and objectives.

Collaborate with key stakeholders, including Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, Benefits, Health and Wellness, Workers’ Compensation, Safety, Legal, and site leadership, to ensure the integration of occupational health initiatives into company operations.

 

This job operates in a clinic setting within an industrial environment. The work environment is primarily in a clinic setting with occasional need to enter into and perform duties within other areas of the shipyard. Shipyard settings may require hearing protection, safety glasses and safety shoes. Some work will require a TLD.

Qualifications

 

Required Credentials, Education and Experience

  • Requirements may include working flexible hours including evenings, nights and weekends. Travel for training and company business at off sites may occasionally be required.
  • The ability to obtain a Department of Defense “Secret” Clearance is mandatory.
  • Medical Licenses in RI and CT (required).
  • State Narcotic/Controlled Substance license is required (Connecticut, Rhode Island).
  • Medical Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Certification in Radiation Health Indoctrination (RHI) status and Medical Review Officer (MRO) will be required.
  • DOT and BAT certification is preferred and willingness to acquire certifications is required.  Willing to obtain other certifications as needed.
  • Current board certification required. Preferably in one of the following disciplines: Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Public Health and General Preventive Medicine or Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
  • CPR (BLS for the Healthcare Provider)

Preferred Credentials, Experience and Skills

  • 2 years’ experience in Occupational and Environmental medicine or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with interpretation of results of EKG, audiometry, drug tests, x-rays, sutures, and spirometry is desired.
  • Knowledge of workplace health, safety, disability, and OSHA regulations. 
  • Superior interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
  • Federal DEA license
