Overview

The Reactor Plant Planning Yard (RPPY) has an opening for a highly motivated On-Site Representative at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard (PHNS).  The RPPY routinely provides technical support to the PHNS Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department (NEPD) for the maintenance, modernization, repair, and upkeep of reactor plants on commissioned LOS ANGELES and VIRGINIA Class submarines.  The On-Site Representative will act as a liaison between PHNS and the RPPY in Groton, CT, and will provide subject matter expert support with engineering, design, production, and testing, as well as material acquisition assistance associated with submarine upkeep and repair.

This position requires excellent communication skills at all levels, exceptional customer focus, and the ability to work successfully remotely.  The successful candidate will build positive working relationships with PHNS NEPD.  The candidate must have broad knowledge and experience with submarine propulsion plant systems and operations, and public shipyard work practices.  Familiarity and understanding of Military and Federal specifications and technical drawings is also required.

Key Responsibilites:

  • Provide technical assistance to resolve issues with equipment and products under RPPY cognizance.
  • Maintain situational awareness of NEPD’s issues with ongoing work by attending Project and Repair Office meetings.
  • Facilitate/provide NEPD with reach back service to RPPY in Groton, CT.
  • Provide support to PHNS on questions and requests for material from EB stock through streamlined processes.
  • Perform shipchecks for RPPY to support development of ship alterations and class design changes.
  • Provide support to RPPY personnel preparing to visit PHNS.

This position requires relocation to Honolulu, HI 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree or higher in Engineering
  • 7+ years related professional experience
  • Prior Naval nuclear operating experience or shipboard propulsion plant system engineering experience
  • Proficiency in technical drawing interpretation
  • Flexibility of schedule; must be able to occasionally work odd hours
  • This position requires relocation to Honolulu, HI

 

Preferred:

  • Prior experience working in Naval Shipyard environment
  • Experience working in a planning yard, engineering office, or program office
  • Active security clearance

Skills

  • Basic computer skills in MS Office applications
  • Excellent communication skills are necessary to successfully perform this assignment
