The successful candidate will provide technical direction and oversight to nuclear engineers, radiological control technicians, and nuclear trades, during the planning and execution of nuclear work. Radiological Engineers are the technical authority responsible to ensure requirements are met to keep personnel radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable and to protect the environment. The successful candidate’s duties will include serving as a technical lead for the RADIAC Calibration and Repair program.
Duties will include:
- Developing and reviewing procedures and methods to ensure appropriate radiological controls are directed
- Developing radiation exposure estimates and shielding goals, maintaining the radiological status of ships and facilities, and preparing radiological control agreements
- Providing deck-plate support and oversight of radiological work in the shipyard and at SUBASE, New London
- Investigating radiological problems to prevent or mitigate re-occurrence
- Leading projects for radiological innovation and process improvement
- Coordinating with other naval nuclear program shipyards and labs to maintain and improve corporate radiological controls procedures
- Reviewing and approving RADIAC calibration records
- Revising and developing RADIAC calibration procedures
- Implementing new RADIACs for use, ensuring procedures, calibrations, and supporting trainings are completed
- Troubleshooting RADIAC technical problems
- Ensuring end users have a full allotment of RADIACs, at all times
- Overseeing the RADIAC Calibration program
