Overview:
The Undersea Special Mission Systems (USMS) Engineering Group is a newly formed branch within the Electric Boat’s Planning Yard Fleet Support Engineering Organization (D495). D495 is responsible for non-nuclear technical support for in-service VIRGINIA, OHIO and SEAWOLF (Multi-Mission Platform) Class submarines. The products they support are Ship Alterations (SHIPALTs), Temporary Alterations (TEMPALTs), Liaison Action Requests (LARs), Manual Change Requests (MCRs) and validation of ships’ configurations on Selected Record Drawings (SRDs).
The Special Mission Systems Engineering group provides specific support to the Undersea Special Mission Systems sector of NAVSEA (PMS390) and USSOCOM divisions. This type of work directly supports the Deep Submergence Systems – Scope of Certification special emphasis program (DSS-SOC), Escape & Rescue and New Technologies to be deployed on submarines. The group is comprised of multi-discipline engineers and program representatives/project leads to provide system engineering support along with program office functionality.
