Quonset Point COLUMBIA Construction Support Engineering team has an opening for a highly motivated piping system engineer to provide support for construction of the US COLUMBIA and UK DREADNOUGHT classes.  In this role, the engineer will be expected to provide comprehensive technical oversight of construction activities and will interface with Design and Engineering, Ship's Management, Detail Planning, Operations, Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP), and PMS397.

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Provide engineering oversight and assisting trade personnel to overcome emergent shipyard issues that arise during construction
  • Interpret design/drawing/specification requirements
  • Provide direction and/or evaluation to Quonset Point trades via disposition of Change Notices and TIR UNSATs
  • Provide surveillance of manufacturing inspection and testing of material at Quonset Point
  • Multidisciplinary engineering evaluations to support all manufacturing needs
  • Facilitate implementation of design and process improvements

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • 4+ years of engineering experience

 

Preferred:

  • Prior deck plate construction experience
  • Prior experience in Engineering
  • Fluid Systems Engineering experience on COLUMBIA Class products
  • Familiarity with Electronic Desktop (7G, Work Orders, ELCADD, ERS, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Team Center (CR/CN experience)
  • Active secret clearance
  • Prior US Navy experience

The candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.  Candidate must be highly motivated and be able to perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a team environment.
