As a Main Propulsion Machinery Shafting Engineer, you will be responsible for the project management and oversight of design, development, procurement, ship integration, test and repair and fleet support activities for main machinery shafting components associated with all fast-attack submarine classes, including the main thrust bearing, propulsor bearing and main propulsion shafting systems.
Specific responsibilities will include component analysis (impacts to safety, cost, schedule, performance, operations, and maintenance), arrangement integration (where things are located on the boat), and component development (design evolutions to meet new and/or evolving specifications). Frequent interface will be required with multiple Electric Boat engineering and support disciplines, vendors, Newport News Shipbuilding, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Shipyard Personnel (Trades) and Ship’s Force (active duty Navy).
