Overview
Department 478 is seeking highly motivated individuals to support the design and construction of the COLUMBIA Class submarines. D478 engineers support a wide variety of HM&E electrical systems across the following areas; instrumentation and control, auxiliaries, power distribution, and lighting systems. D478 engineers also support the development of internal cableways for COLUMBIA and UK Classes of ships including shock motion calculations and component stress analysis. D478 engineers support the development of electrical components and managing vendors that provide sensors, flow meters, bus transfer switches, motor controllers, and control panels. D478 engineers support the development and testing of the submarines diesel generator.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with design personnel and other engineering disciplines to develop design disclosures such as cabling diagrams, wiring tables, schematic wiring diagrams, cable routing sheets, and assembly and detail drawings to support COLUMBIA Class construction
- Collaborate with electrical technicians, and deck plate engineers to quickly troubleshoot and develop resolutions to design build problems that occur during submarine construction
- Develop component procurement specifications and managing vendors that design, manufacture, and qualify components for the COLUMBIA Class
- Perform stress analysis, shock motion calculations, voltage drop calculations, and illumination calculations
- Development and review of functional requirements documents, system descriptions, and 3D ship modeling
Skills
- Candidate must be highly motivated and be capable of performing independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a team environment
- Candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and technical writing skills
- Some travel may be required
