Manufacturing Engineering develops, researches, designs, and procures special tools, fixtures, and other manufacturing aids required to facilitate submarine construction, maintenance, and overhaul on all classes.  D467 Manufacturing Engineering is seeking highly motivated engineering technical assistants with prior experience in the submarine operation, design, construction, or maintenance industry that can join the team. This position will involve supporting the department in managing the procurement and tracking of fixtures between Electric Boat locations.

 

Primary job responsibilities will include:

  • Aligning and tracking the scheduled design development, procurement, delivery, condition, implementation, refurbishment, and movement of all Fixtures
  • Coordinating with Operations to document requests for new, emergent fixture needs
  • Represent the department at shipyard production meetings
  • Early recognition of the need for multiple Fixture procurements to accommodate overlapping construction spans.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have prior submarine operational or new construction experience that will give insight in to the fixtures, tooling, or procedures needed to execute an evolution.
  • Have strong written and verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Have a strong mentoring capability to communicate practical application of products being produced.
  • Have the ability to manage several schedule-critical tasks which rely on multiple organizations for successful execution.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of 5 + years of experience in submarine construction, test, operation, or maintenance, or related naval construction

Preferred:

  • Relevant Associates or Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with material procurement and/or Supplier Management
  • Experience with welding and structural fabrication
  • Experience in EB Program Office or Planning
  • Experienced in the use of TeamCenter, Artemis, Electronic Desktop, Common Parts Catalog, and Lotus Notes
