Overview

Delivering 1 COLUMBIA and 2 VIRGINIA Class submarines each year is critical to our nation’s defense, and D931 needs you to help us achieve it! The Industrial Engineering Organization provides mission-critical support to EB Leadership and the functional organizations through implementation of the EB Production System, developing and managing the organization’s improvement strategies, measuring the impact of improvement activities, and establishing the processes for the simultaneous build of VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA class submarines.

 

The Industrial Engineer (IE) ensures the efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing processes on the deck plate. Partnering with Operations Management (Ops Manager, Superintendent, & Supervisors), and Production Control Planners, the IE shares ownership of manufacturing performance. The IE oversees the initial implementation and sustained execution of production processes for their work center or product line, ensuring processes support production goals.

 

This role involves establishing repeatable and predictable processes, material management strategies, production standards, and adhering to productivity targets. The IE provides direct support to the manufacturing team, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and maintains high standards of quality, cost, and schedule adherence.

 

This position is on-site located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

 

Key responsibilities of the position will include:

  • Production support and troubleshooting – calculating performance variance and identifying production cost drivers
  • Facilitate construction pre-start process – use lessons learned to improve construction for each product line
  • Process capability and improvement – evaluate and maintain process capability by driving efficiency, enforcing construction build strategies and best practices, and evaluation of technology insertion
  • Establish and maintain visual management and metrics
  • Capture and analyze lessons learned

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering, or equivalent technical degree (or will be obtained by December 2025)
  • 0-5 years of postgraduate professional Engineering experience 
  • Must be able to interpret technical publications 

Preferred:

  • Previous internship or CO-OP in a manufacturing and/or naval shipbuilding setting
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting on the shop floor
  • Experience tracking production metrics and process capability

Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be capable of working both independently and in a team environment
  • A highly motivated problem solver who is well organized with strong project management skills
  • Must have basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate manufacturing processes
  • Ability to interface with various levels of employees and influence change
