D412 is the structural engineering department responsible for all internal structures located in the VIRGINIA Class Propulsion Plant, and is seeking a motivated individual to fill a new Structural Engineering Supervisor position at the EB Quonset Point shipyard in Rhode Island. This supervisor will run a newly established engineering group to provide construction support of the VIRGINIA Class engine room structures, along with driving the initiatives for improving sequence critical material and other program acceleration efforts. Responsibilities include written technical direction to trades, deck-plate engineering support, addressing shipyard challenges, understanding intent of requirements, and developing innovative technically-sound solutions.
The selected supervisor will be expected to foster a collaborative, hands-on, proactive and technically rigorous approach to engineering, planning support and problem solving in a dynamic environment. The Supervisor is most often the primary point of contact for the group and as a result, frequent interfaces with internal and external customers including other design and engineering departments, EB and Newport News Shipyard trades, EB Program Office, SUPSHIP, Naval Nuclear Laboratories (NNL), and Naval Reactors are to be expected.
