Overview

D494 Engineers are responsible for the detailed design and analysis of forward end internal submarine structures. Experience required in the detailed design of forward end internal submarine structures, i.e., equipment foundations, platform decks, modular structures, joinerwork, and stowage.  Experience using finite element analysis to perform static and dynamic shock analysis, submergence, fatigue, and evaluation of tank pressurization loads and loads due to ships motions is required.  Additionally, Engineers will interface with Designers, representatives from various disciplines, and the Navy in a Design/Build team environment.  Engineers will also participate in Navy design reviews.

 

Electric Boat offers Flexible Work Arrangements that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home. This varies from position to position based on the amount of classified material the department interacts with, as well as a few other variables. Please ask for more details on how it applies to this opening during discussions with the department.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering
  • 4-14 years of related structural engineering experience
  • 4+ years' experience using FEA in structural analysis applications of surface ships or submarines
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret level DOD security clearance 

Preferred:

  • A Master's of Science degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering
  • Active secret or higher level DOD security clearance
  • Experience working with and presenting to customers in the DOD
  • Experience using DDAM in structural analysis applications of surface ships or submarines
  • Experience leading technical projects with full ownership over quality, cost, and schedule

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in an engineering environment
  • Demonstrated skills and proficiency in the technical area of structural engineering is required and knowledge of finite element analysis, steel design techniques and advanced mechanics of materials is highly desirable
