Overview

There’s never been a better time to join the shipbuilding industry. As demand for cutting-edge naval technology grows, General Dynamics Electric Boat is at the forefront-designing, building, and maintaining the most advanced submarines in the world. Our work is mission-critical, supporting the U.S. Navy and strengthening national security.

We offer a workplace where integrity, innovation, and excellence drive everything we do. With competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and career growth opportunities, your future in shipbuilding starts here. Be part of history in the making – apply today.

For engineers that aspire to become Engineering Supervisors or Engineering Managers, a 1-3 year assignment in EB’s Program Offices provides exposure to how Electric Boat works as a system, with all functional areas serving as both suppliers and customers to each other as we design, build and deliver submarines.  This role will provide exposure and face-time with EB, NNS and Navy senior leaders and valuable first-hand financial analysis experience.  This role will also provide direct engagement with ship construction activity in Quonset Point and Groton.

The Navy needs our submarines more than ever.  We have a large backlog of 16 submarines in various stages of construction and over the next year, contracts for the next blocks of COLUMBIA and VIRGINIA Class submarines will awarded.

As we look to increase our volume to one COLUMBIA and two VIRGINIA Class submarines delivered annually, there is both opportunity and need for us to improve our alignment and integration of work planning and execution.

This Program Integration directorate will lead the functional areas and COLUMBIA and VIRGINIA Program Office teams’ integration on key business objectives including cost and schedule performance, including shaping our future facilities and capture of the next class of submarines.

The Program Representative (this position) will assist Program Managers in various functions including:

  • Interpret, apply and implement drawing and specification requirements.
  • Review technical performance data (e.g., accuracy control data, as-built machining data, inspection results, etc.).
  • Review technical letters.
  • Establish program plans, continuously monitor functional area’s performance and development and implementation of corrective action when plans and performance misalign.
  • Assist in review and approval critical decisions involving cost, schedule, quality and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the integration of both COLUMBIA and VIRGINIA programs and product lines, ensuring alignment with company goals. Where functional organizations or facilities support both programs, ensure holistic, integrated staffing / resource plan exists to support both programs and resolve conflicts between programs.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators related to both programs related to execution, cost, quality and delivery. Report on any trends to internal and external customers.
  • Ensure metrics and oversight across the programs are common to the maximum extent practical and based on best practices.
  • Identify and plan for risks across both programs and implement proactive mitigation strategies. Identify risks that are increased by an aggregation of both programs or are unique at the enterprise level (a result of a combination from both programs).
  • Assist in preparation and delivery of senior EB and Navy leadership briefings.
