Overview

Detail-oriented Analytical Chemistry Lab technician to support submarine construction programs and to comply with state and federal regulatory requirements with primary responsibilities of sample collection, preparation, chemical analysis and documentation.

 

The ideal candidate should have experience in analytical chemistry, working to government approved methods, working in a Certified Public Health Laboratory and/or a background in State of CT DEEP environmental discharge regulations.

 

This position requires the candidate to be available to work off-shift and weekends when required. Large portions of the role requires the candidate to frequently access the Ships and Shipyard Construction areas.

 

The work can be physically demanding, requiring the individual to carry sampling equipment throughout the shipyard and aboard submarines in all weather conditions.

 

The individual musts be capable of entering confined and enclosed spaces, able to climb ladders and stairs and able to work at heights. 

 

The candidate will be cross-trained in additional laboratory areas as needed including air analysis. Upon hiring, qualification in the Nuclear Water Chemistry Lab is a requirement. Maintaining these qualifications indefinitely is a requirement for the position

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or equivalent area
  • Must have experience in Analytical Chemistry, measuring and transferring liquids, handling chemicals, understanding dilutions, data analysis and documentation.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance

Preferred: 

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working in an analytical chemistry laboratory
  • Instrumentation experience:
  • Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy, Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry, Gas Chromatography
  • Experience with water and air chemical analysis
  • Hazardous Material Handling, Storm water sample collection, NPDES permit support.

Skills

  • Proficient in the use of standard laboratory equipment and techniques
  • Attention to detail, ability to work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to work effectively with a team
  • Experience with various analytical software and proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Requires frequent unassisted lifting of various sample equipment and walking to various sample locations
