In this time of unprecedented growth at Electric Boat, we are pursuing an innovative thinker who is capable of solving complex problems and offering new ideas to support future designs of submarine fluid systems as part of the nation’s #1 Defense Acquisition program.
Specifically, department 375 is seeking a results driven candidate with a proven track record of success to support the design and development of the VIRGINIA Class and next generation submarines. D375 offers a dynamic and fast paced environment responsible for hydraulic, auxiliary, habitability and life support, HVAC, seawater and compressed gas fluid system development. These systems are essential to the ability to sustain life underwater, submarine operation, and accomplishment of the ship’s mission.
Fluid system engineers operate in a hands on capacity and are directly responsible for the critical thinking required in all aspects of their systems from concept development to ship delivery. In addition to the design and development of fluid systems, engineers in D375 are exposed to various aspects of submarine design, construction, and operation which provides opportunities for continuous growth, leadership, and advancement as an engineer.
Individuals selected for this position will be responsible for the development and execution of projects supporting current and future VIRGINIA Class and SSN(X) design efforts, design changes, and system improvement tasking. D375 engineers continuously improve system designs to support increased capability as requested directly by the Navy customer. This position requires a team player who is capable of continued progression of technical and project management skills and may include rotation experiences to directly support planning and/or construction engineering to assist with downstream design incorporation.
Technical Responsibilities: Development of initial system/component requirements and specifications; performing calculations (e. g. pressure drop, flow analyses, heat loads, stress analysis); developing and improving fluid system designs; developing/reviewing system diagrams and drawings; material and equipment selections; resolving emergent design and construction issues; managing system interfaces; developing system operating instructions for ship’s crew, test forms and maintenance procedures.
Project Management: Development of budgets and schedules to complete the required technical work in support of achieving program milestones; requirement and interface management with other disciplines, effective written and verbal communication to internal and external customers (e.g. other EB departments, NAVSEA, Ship's Force, private contractors and other shipyards as required).
