Overview

Electric Boat is seeking an Assistant General Counsel, who will report directly to the Assistant General Counsel Sr. – Labor & Employment and be a trusted business partner to the Human Resources and Labor Relations teams. The chosen applicant’s roles and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide advice, counsel, research, training and solutions to complex employment and labor law issues
  • Represent the business on EEO, DOL and other state agency charges
  • Work with outside counsel on employment disputes and litigation
  • Develop and implement internal practices and policies to achieve compliance with applicable laws (e.g. FMLA, ADA, Title VII, FLSA, OSHA, OFCCP, etc.)
  • Work with the HR team in developing and managing business objectives
  • Develop and maintain strong internal client relationships across the business
  • Support (and occasionally conduct) workplace investigations
  • May require some travel

The General Counsel or the Assistant General Counsel Sr. – Labor & Employment may assign other responsibilities as necessary.

 

Limited remote work opportunities may be available once the chosen application has demonstrated sufficient competency in role.   

 

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance from the DoD.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Candidates must have a J.D. degree from an accredited law school and have an active license to practice law in Connecticut (needs to be in good standing)
  • 4 years practicing employment law in either a law firm, government agency or corporate setting
  • Previous legal experience in management-side representation in employment matters

Preferred:

  • License to practice law in Rhode Island
  • Experience in the following areas:
    • lead attorney in discovery practice, including taking and defending depositions
    • preparing for and conducting fact finding hearings before CHRO, RICHR, or other similar agencies
    • state or federal court litigation of employment-related matters
    • Mediation and Arbitrations
    • OSHA-related matters
    • Data Privacy
    • Wage & Hour matters 
    • legal holds

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong legal research, analysis, and drafting skills
  • Energetic and creative problem-solver with superior interpersonal and client-management skills
  • Must be flexible, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize competing deadlines
