Department 373 – Fast Attack Boat Main Machinery SSTG Engineer - Responsible for the design, manufacture, test, and delivery of the ship service turbine generators (SSTGs) for VIRGINIA Class submarine.

Engineers will be responsible for the project management and oversight of design, development, procurement, ship integration, test, and repair efforts of the SSTGs.  Engineers will have the opportunity to develop a knowledge base in a wide variety of associated submarine systems, components, and structures in a fast-paced environment of changing issues.

The selected individuals will be required to interface with EB management, Equipment Vendors, Customers (Naval Sea Systems Command), Shipyard Personnel, and Ship’s Force.  The individual must have a strong proficiency in all facets of engineering principles associated with rotating machinery and controls.  The individual should have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and procedures and have strong technical writing and communication skills.

Travel to vendor facilities and Newport News Shipbuilding yard for witnessing testing and issue resolutions are regularly anticipated as well as shift work with occasional night shift coverage.

Required:

• Bachelor's of Science degree (or higher) in Mechanical, aeronautical/aerospace, or chemical Engineering or Marine engineering degree from USMMA 
• 2-5 years of post graduate engineering experience
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense.

Preferred:

• Masters degree
• Experience in control systems and/or robotics
• Eperience in submare design and/orconstruction

• Capable of resolving complex engineering problem
• Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Must be a quick learner and be able to adapt to a variety of tasks
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a group as well as independently
• Ability to work in shipyard environment and onboard ships is required
