Overview

The largely unexplored seafloor is the latest battle space.  This challenging environment is where the SSN 812 Subsea and Seabed Warfare (SSW) platform will take the stage.  SSW is a new capability targeted for a single, late-Block-V Virginia Class submarine.  It is a complex, fast-moving program with strong Navy and Congressional support.

Platform System Engineering (D417) is seeking a motivated individual to serve as the SSN 812 Lead Systems Engineer (LSE) Deputy.  In conjunction with the SSN 812 LSE, the individual would lead and support multiple engineering disciplines in resolving technical integration challenges, develop and manage technical requirements, support cross-functional interface development activities, support testing of ship systems, and managing technical risk efforts. Platform Systems Engineering works closely with other internal engineering disciplines, with various Navy organizations, and with industry partners to ensure successful integration of complex systems within the submarine The selected candidate will also work closely with the SSW Lead Engineer, EB program leadership, industry partner leadership, and our Navy counterparts, which is invaluable for skill development and career growth.

This role will support the following work, including, but not limited to:

  • Assessing SSW systems to minimize opportunities for failure during normal, abnormal, and casualty conditions
  • Managing the program’s technical requirements and verification plans
  • Drive the documentation of system concepts of operations (CONOPs) by working closely with internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting the development of interfaces between systems, components, and organizations
  • Coordinating prototype and system test efforts
  • Work with SMEs and SSN812 Risk Lead to identify and mitigate technical risks to the program
  • Assessing opportunities to apply model based systems engineering (MBSE) practices on the program

Assignments and responsibilities will be based on the selected applicants’ experience levels, skill sets, and ambitions, as well as on the evolving needs of each project. Some assignments may provide occasional travel opportunities to customer and industry partner locations.

D417 offers the opportunity for flexible work arrangements, including a partial work-from-home schedule.  Interested candidates are encouraged to seek additional information about the position and department from the hiring manager.
