At General Dynamics Electric Boat, we offer college students an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on engineering experience in the defense industry. Our Co-op Program provides practical exposure in a mission-critical environment, working alongside expert engineers to develop and support the next generation of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines.
As a Co-op Trainee, you’ll collaborate with experienced professionals across departments and gain valuable insights into innovative programs like the Columbia Class design and enhancements to the Virginia Class submarines. You’ll apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges, grow your engineering skill set, and contribute to critical national security efforts.
Participants may be placed in one of several departments, including but not limited to:
Location: Electric Boat locations in CT or RI
Duration: Full-time | 4–6 months | Spring 2026 Semester
On-site only | U.S. Citizenship required
Participation in this program is in lieu of a course load / academic class schedule.

Applicants should have completed a minimum of one year of college working toward a Bachelor or Master's of Science degree in: Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Marine/Ocean Engineering, Systems Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Naval Architecture/Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Computer Science. Other relevant engineering and STEM degrees are encouraged to apply.
