Overview

The Electric Boat fiber-optic engineering team is responsible for the design, qualification, and integration and testing of the fiber-optic cable system (FOCS) on US Navy submarines. Engineers support the system during each stage of development to drive timely completion of crucial construction milestones.

The FOCS spans multiple submarine platforms and interconnects over twenty (20) different subsystems on each. To coordinate many unique interfaces on this scale, exceptional communication and organizational skills are a must-have. The candidate for this position will be required to interface with NAVSEA, government vendors and various other Electric Boat departments on a daily basis.

Additionally, the fiber-optic team is Electric Boat’s Fiber-Optic Center of Excellence providing general fiber-optic expertise for the company.

This position will require the engineer to perform technology investigations, write white papers, review/approve drawings, resolve construction issues, identify/manage risks, recognize opportunities for cost reduction track/evaluate requirements and manage various projects.

While most of the job takes place in the office, shipyard visits are often required to troubleshoot construction issues. Opportunity for hands-on work and travel exist, but are less common.
