About Department 701 - Navy Facility Engineering & Training Technologies Group

Department 701, located at SUBASE Groton, CT, provides training support of submarines and facilities at forward sites in engineering, planning, logistics and modernization for all classes of submarines.

 

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Data Analyst with a strong specialization in Microsoft Power BI to join our growing analytics team.

 

Role Overview

In this role, you will be instrumental in transforming complex data into clear, actionable insights that drive strategic business decisions within the department. You will be responsible for the end-to-end development of robust Power BI solutions, from data extraction and modeling to dashboard creation and performance optimization.

 

The position involves overall project, funding, procurement, and cost data analysis of D701 projects; analysis and coordination for the transition of active data to EB platforms such as Microsoft Power BI and Oracle Business Intelligence; developing analytical tools to assist in forecasting, manning projections and project status reports.

 

The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, analyzing large amounts of data for the development of metrics, establishing strong working relationships with the Customer, department personnel and management is necessary to be successful in this role. 

 

Key Responsibilities

Design and Develop Power BI Solutions

  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI reports, dashboards, and data models that meet evolving business requirements.  

Data Modeling and Transformation

  • Create and optimize complex data models, utilizing DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for calculations and Power Query for data transformation and cleansing from various sources (SQL databases, Excel, etc.).

Data Integrity & Quality Assurance 

  • Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data used in Power BI reports through robust data validation, quality checks, and troubleshooting.

Requirements Gathering & Stakeholder Collaboration 

  • Work closely with department project leads to understand their analytical needs and translate them into effective Power BI solutions.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a similar role, with a strong focus on Power BI development.
  • Experience working with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Azure SQL Database).
  • Experience working with the entire Microsoft 365 Suite -  especially MS Excel.
  • Candidates selected for interviews will be required to present a portfolio showcasing previous Power BI projects.

Preferred

  • Experience with programming languages such as VBA, MATLAB,.NET or similar tools
  • Experience with Project Management/Scheduling and Earned Value Management System (EVMS)
  • Experience with Contracts, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and/or Program Finance

Skills

  • Working Knowledge of Oracle Business Intelligence suite
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI Desktop, Power Query, and DAX.
  • SQL querying skills
  • Excellent communication skills; written, verbal, and presentation
  • Strong Analytical and Problem Solving Skills; ability to anticipate critical events
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Proven ability to function independently and establish a positive working relationship in a multi‐discipline team environment
  • Ability to prioritize work and accomplish tasks with minimum guidance
