Overview

Engineers in the Ship Signatures Department are responsible for ensuring that the ship's components, systems and structures are designed and built to meet a submarine's challenging radiated noise requirements.

 

Ship Signatures engineers working in the Advanced Concepts group are involved in research to extend the state-of-the-art in advanced noise control technology and acoustic analysis methods, and to develop concepts for noise control of current and future submarine designs. Engineers in this group have knowledge in the areas of finite elements, structures, electronic instrumentation and measurements, electronic component design, acoustic theory, signal processing, and system engineering, among others.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering,
  • Less than 5 years of relevant experience
  • Coursework and/or experience in vibrations, programming, and circuits
  • Experience with MATLAB scripting language (i.e. syntax, flow control, functions, built-in libraries, etc.)
  • An active SECRET clearance, or ability to obtain a SECRET clearance

Preferred:

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering, 
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience which includes but is not limited to: acoustics; linear vibrations; classic, modern, digital, and robust controls, structural dynamics, finite element analysis (FEA), signal processing, analog to digital processing, filter design, digital system design, linear electronics
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++, LabView, and/or other computational modeling tools and programming languages

  • Self-starter and quick learner
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, and meet project schedule requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MATLAB scripting language (i.e. syntax, flow control, functions, built-in libraries, etc.)
