D341 Welding Engineering has expanded and requires a dedicated supervisor to oversee direct reports within the Robotic Welding Engineering Construction Support group, based out of the Quonset Point facility. The Robotic Welding Engineering Supervisor will also be responsible for providing technical assistance and guidance to other Electric Boat sites.
The Robotic Welding Engineering Construction Support group is primarily responsible for the following:
- Retaining technical ownership of robotic welding installations and applicable written processes
- Programming robots to allow for industrial robotic welding in a fully operational production environment
- Working directly with operations to ensure efficient operation of robotic welding installations
- Supporting robotic welding installation upgrades with external vendors to allow Electric Boat to have the advantage in structural submarine fabrication
- Conduct on-job structural welding surveillances to ensure procedural compliance in robotic work centers
- Providing technical guidance for the application of all major welding processes (GMAW, SMAW, SAW, TSAW, and GTAW)
- Writing technical dispositions in support of development activities, Welding Engineering instructions, and external customer submittals
- Maintaining procedural and specification compliance oversight for submarine structural documents (NAVSEA specifications, Electric Boat standard procedures, and design drawings)
- Performing root cause analyses and evaluating problem resolution strategies for a wide variety of issues as required
- Coordinating with peer engineering organizations to provide immediate support functional area leads in operations
- Coordinating with functional area leads to identify opportunities for process improvement
- Supporting upper management performance tracking goals by maintaining D341 cognizant data inputs and reports
- Developing and maintaining company standards, procedures and best practices in the areas of robotic welding
- Identifying resources, planning and assigning work, tracking progress and ensuring timely completion of work and projects within budgeted hours
- Providing training and developing direct report employees’ critical skills to meet department short and long term objectives
