About Department 403 - Technical Services

The Life Cycle Support directorate is responsible for the development and maintenance of all submarine logistics products, including modernization and fleet support of submarines. Our mission is to provide the U.S. Navy five-star support that increases submarine Operational Availability and Capability. As part of this directorate, Department 403 – Technical Services provides writing, editing, logistics, and production services in the development and maintenance of logistic technical data (LTD) including ship systems manuals and component technical manuals for OHIO, SEAWOLF, VIRGINIA, SSGN, and COLUMBIA.

 

Role Overview

In this role, you will troubleshoot and manage software applications and act as a technical IT expert to support the primary process of illustrating and text processing. This position is within the Electric Boat Planning Yard, and directly supports the internal processing of various NAVSEA, SUPSHIP, Ship’s Force, and Naval Shipyard technical operational and maintenance manuals.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Write scripts to automate repetitive tasks core to the production process
  • Troubleshoot software when upgrading to new Microsoft operating systems
  • Troubleshoot software when upgrading the XML toolset to later versions
  • Troubleshoot text processing and illustrating software to restore operability when needed
  • Coordinate and submit trouble tickets to EBIT / Unisys in a way that accurately conveys the urgency and nature of the problem

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-5 years of experience with computer coding
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance

Preferred

  • Degree in computer science or related field
  • Experience using PTC Arbortext product releases pertaining to the NNPP XML toolset
    HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python
  • Experience with Jira, Service now, Power Query, Terminal scripting, Web browser development tools

Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • General knowledge of web development
  • Working knowledge of markup languages such as SGML, HTML, & XML
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal (i.e., problem solving, verbal communication, & decision making) skills.Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Good organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Good project management and prioritization skills
  • Candidates must be a team player and highly motivated
  • Willingness to assist with issues using independent judgment and ingenuity
