Overview

The D460 Second Shift Construction Support Integration Engineering team has a Systems Engineering position available.  Our engineering and design group is responsible for providing on-site deckplate technical leadership for all second shift operations on the Quonset Point facility for both the VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class including structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical construction.

 

Responsibilities include the resolution and trouble-shooting of second shift construction issues, integration with second shift Quonset Point operations and support groups, and liaison support between second shift operations and various stakeholders.  Candidates will function as an engineering representative supporting VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class construction while focusing on providing technical leadership and deckplate support to second shift operations at the Quonset Point facility.  Candidates will be required to provide technical leadership regarding second shift operations, disposition/review engineering reports, address design issues, provide UNSAT responses, ensure timely resolution, and work independently.  Candidates will engage with operations, ship’s management, program office, quality assurance, support groups, QP test, and planning.  Candidates will communicate assessments to operations, provide technical advice/guidance, and perform or assist with various projects.

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering
  • 0-5 years of postgraduate engineering experience
  • The ability to obtain/maintain a Department of Defense secret clearance.

Preferred: 

  • Experience/knowledge of submarine construction.
  • Experience dispositioning and peer reviewing Engineering Reports or similar.
  • Experience with trouble-shooting and technical problem solving.
  • Experience with providing deck-plate engineering construction support.
  • Experience with task or project management. 

Skills

  • Knowledge of VIRGINIA Class ship design and arrangement – including new design (VPM) programs.
  • Knowledge of construction drawings, system diagrams, and test forms.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Candidate must be able to take initiative and work independently.
  • Candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Candidate must be highly motivated and able to perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a team environment.
  • This position requires physical interfacing in manufacturing shops and on submarine modules, including climbing and accessing confined spaces.
