Quality Inspection Supervisor (D935)

 

Electric Boat is seeking a Quality Inspection Supervisor (D935) to lead a team of inspectors in front-line production areas at our Philadelphia, PA Focus Factory – 2nd Shift. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for ensuring safety, quality, inspection integrity, and regulatory compliance in support of the world’s most advanced submarine programs.

 

As a Quality Inspection Supervisor, safety standards start with you. You will be responsible for setting the tone for safety, quality, and accountability by ensuring all inspection personnel follow established procedures and regulations. You must have the ability to effectively communicate and provide detailed pre-job briefs, ensuring that inspectors fully understand safety requirements, quality standards, and job expectations before beginning work.

 

Working directly with inspectors on the production floor, you will oversee daily inspection activities, resolve quality concerns in real-time, and ensure all work meets safety, quality, customer, regulatory, and company requirements. You will provide technical guidance, assist in problem-solving, and maintain a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within your team. Additionally, you will provide a comprehensive pass down or status report to your opposite shift counterpart to ensure seamless transitions and continuity.

 

A critical responsibility of this role is to verify and maintain inspector qualifications for assigned work areas and tasks daily. This includes tracking certifications, monitoring training requirements, and addressing discrepancies to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.

 

You will be expected to mentor, coach, and develop inspectors, ensuring they have the knowledge, training, and tools to perform inspections effectively. Reinforcing high performance, attention to detail, and compliance with safety and quality standards, you will actively engage with production teams to support manufacturing objectives.

 

Success in this position requires collaboration with production personnel, proactive problem-solving, and driving improvements in inspection processes. Your ability to balance technical expertise, hands-on leadership, and strong communication skills will be essential in fostering accountability, efficiency, and operational excellence in a dynamic production setting.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Active certification in an NDT inspection method
  • Active qualification in a non-NDT inspection method
  • 3+ years of experience in QA Inspection, Shipbuilding, and/or NDT at the Quonset Point Facility 
  • Secret Clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in quality management, manufacturing, engineering, or related field
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies, such as Lean or Six Sigma
  • Tech Pub 271 Level III Examiner certification or equivalent in related NDT methods
  • Currently an NDT qualified evaluator or Approved OJT provider

Skills

  • Ability to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed or directed, to support production and inspection operations
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces for extended periods, at heights, in inclement weather, and in any other area where the crew is required to work
  • Demonstrated expertise in inspection practices, regulatory standards, safety, and accountability
  • Ability to effectively communicate and provide detailed pre-job briefs
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey ideas and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
  • Proven ability to mentor, coach, and develop team members while reinforcing a culture of accountability and excellence
