Overview

Systems Engineering – Future Plant Studies Turbine Generator Set

 

The SSN(X) main machinery department (373) is responsible for the next generation propulsion plant rotating machinery components under development for future NAVY platforms such as the improved VIRGINIA Class platform, SSN(X) (next generation fast-attack submarine), and second turbine generator (TG) set supplier development. This development is part of an initiative to deliver enhanced capabilities to the NAVY faster while reducing platform cost. The future plant studies TG team is the organization responsible with new capabilities being implemented into our rotating equipment while ensuring successful integration into the propulsion plant.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Leading the development TG set requirements through consensus building discussions with internal stakeholders and customer community
  • Review and approval of supplier design deliverables that document the capabilities and design aspects of the TG set
  • Development of component specific deliverables (acquisition strategies, procurement specifications, supplier facility recommendations, etc.) for customer review and approval
  • Supporting Electric Boat development of technical and programmatic deliverables from multiple disciplines (program office, structures, mechanical, electrical, etc.)
  • Communicating with multi-disciplined teams across enterprise organizations (Electric Boat, Newport News Shipbuilding, Naval Nuclear Laboratories, NAVSEA) to collaboratively develop the next generation propulsion plant

  • Development of component specific deliverables (acquisition strategies, procurement specifications, supplier facility recommendations, etc.) for customer review and approval
  • Supporting Electric Boat development of technical and programmatic deliverables from multiple disciplines (program office, structures, mechanical, electrical, etc.)
  • Communicating with multi-disciplined teams across enterprise organizations (Electric Boat, Newport News Shipbuilding, Naval Nuclear Laboratories, NAVSEA) to collaboratively develop the next generation propulsion plant

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Electrical, Electrical and Controls, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
  • Less than 5 years experience of post graduate engineering experience 

Preferred:

  • Masters degree
  • Experience or course work in control systems
  • Experience in project management, project engineering and/or systems engineering
  • Experience in the design, development and operation of mechanical and/or electrical systems
  • Experience working in a multi-discipline and multi-functional product development team
  • Defining and meeting functional and detail requirements
  • Experience planning and executing team projects
  • Active DoD secret clearance
