Overview

The SHT Engineering group is responsible for the system engineering, project management, and implementation of SHT and related non-metallic shipboard material systems.  The primary functions include support of existing SHT and related manufacturing and installation systems, development of new materials and material concepts, and the development of new technologies for installing SHT and materials / systems on submarines and other platforms to enhance platform performance.  The deck plate responsibilities involve providing support to existing installations (SEAWOLF, VIRGINIA, And Los Angeles classes) including procedure interpretation, trouble shooting, inspection and repair, as well as New Construction SHT installation support of VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class ships at Quonset Point, Groton, and Newport News, VA.  This job will include travel between sites and vendors.

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics or Chemistry.
  • 5+ years of related engineering experience 
  • Must have good computer skills and be proficient in MS Word, Excel & Power Point.
  • Experience dispositioning/Peer reviewing ERs and CR/CNs
  • Experience reading / interpreting / implementing requirements of drawings, and or blueprints
  • Experience with reviewing Objective Quality Evidence (OQE)
  • Ability to maintain a secret clearance from the Department of Defense.
  • Ability to travel between Electric Boat's sites

Preferred:

  • Strong knowledge of Business Systems  such as (Teamcenter, Electronic Desktop, Oracle,  etc.)
  • Experience with NAVSEA or Supervisor of Shipbuilding environments

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to support multi-discipline cross-functional teams but will consider candidates with leadership potential.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills, presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to interface with all levels of management, vendors, NAVSEA, and SSGR. 
  • Program Office/Ships Management interface. 
  • Mechanical aptitude.
