They act as internal consultants and work with other departments like legal and logistics to manage risks associated with global trade.
Core responsibilities
Regulatory monitoring: Stay up-to-date on changing trade laws, tariffs, and sanctions to ensure compliance.
Product classification: Determine the correct Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes for products to ensure correct duties are paid.
Documentation: Prepare and manage all necessary import and export documents, such as customs declarations and certificates of origin.
Auditing: Conduct internal audits of trade practices and procedures, and respond to government inquiries or post-entry adjustments.
Risk management: Advise on and implement strategies to minimize risks, such as those associated with export controls and supply chain security.
Internal consultation: Serve as an expert resource for other departments like legal, logistics, and sales on trade-related matters.
