Overview

The Electric Boat Design community is responsible for developing qualified candidates to produce 3D models and documents to support maintenance and construction of various classes of submarines. As a Draftsman on our team, you will be tasked with the development of technical data utilizing various software in a fast pace collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Development of technical information to support construction utilizing CAD software with oversight
  • Interpretation of construction, manufacturing, technical and safety documents
  • Analysis of as built conditions
  • Developing solutions to technical problems both as an individual and as part of multi-discipline teams
  • Maintain adherence to technical, procedural, and safety requirement throughout product development  

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma/GED or Vocational High School diploma
  • 2-6 years of design experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in drafting (portfolio) with Computer Aided Design (CAD) is required (NX preferred)

Preferred:

  • Two year Technical School/College
  • 3-5 years of relevant academic or work experience in design or construction

  • Experience in steel fabrication and machining processes

Skills

  • Strong structural aptitude
  • knowledge of Microsoft products
  • familiarity with design practices/rules and CAD tools (NX preferred)
  • ability to perform design related math functions
  • ability to read and interpret written instructions and drawings (blueprints)
  • desire to develop skills through on-the-job experience and continued education to advance in the design profession
  • Familiarity with design standards, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), military specifications, manufacturing processes and lean design manufacturing
  • Self-starter
  • Exceptional organization skills
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with a desire to develop skills in an on-the-job training environment
  • Familiarity with design development, and manufacturing processes
