Overview

Electric Boat is experiencing a period of unprecedented growth, and Production Control Planning plays a critical role in ensuring modules are outfitted and shipped in support of that growth. The Supervisor of Planning-Production Control is responsible for the management of 6-10 Production Control Planners at the Austal Focus Factory Facility, supporting all phases of Modular Deck Construction. This position will be in support of both the Virginia Class and Columbia Class Programs and the successful candidate will report to the Manager of Planning-Production Control Columbia Outfitting at Quonset Point.

 

Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of Production Control Planners, providing feedback, coaching, and training on job duties, safety procedures, and company policies.
  • Assign tasks and schedule work to meet production targets, and resolve conflicts within the team.
  • Monitor and evaluate employee performance, and recommend staffing actions such as hiring or promotions.
  • Coordinate with applicable Module Outfitting Manager/Program Office to plan and execute manufacturing/installation schedules.
  • Ensure the team adheres to all company policies, procedures and relevant department job aides.
  • Communicate and coordinate with manufacturing departments to ensure priorities are known and executed, in support of schedule requirements.
  • Prepare production and other reports, and advise on areas that require improvement.
  • Additional duties as assigned for special projects/emergent requests or other responsibilities required by department leadership. 

Additionally, the Supervisor of Planning-Production Control is responsible for overall module planning and production control activities in support of their assigned super module.

  • Production Planning - Work Order Processing and proper Execution of both active and future workload requirements.
  • Resource & Capacity Planning – Work with department manager on monthly resource requirement forecasts for production control areas.
  • Maintain Strategic Direction - Work closely with Operations Management and Ship’s Manager to ensure strategy is in line with applicable business goals.(Safety/Earnings/Schedule/Quality)
  • Continuous Improvement - Candidate will develop and support new ideas for process initiatives in support of Continuous Improvement.
  • Mentorship and development of their group - Promote team building and core values. Build strong relationships and engage them to be critical thinkers. Work to enhance their skill sets in all planning facets of the business to foster their future growth.

This posting is for a full time on site position located at the Mobile, AL Focus Factory location.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 4+ years of combined Planning/Operations/Project Management experience in a manufcaturing space
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Proficiency in technical tools: Practical experience using the below software and systems:
    • Work Life Cycle Business Systems and Construction scheduling tools
    • Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to motivate, coach, and manage a team of planners to achieve production targets and maintain morale
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Must have the ability to understand and teach MRP/ EWP
  • Ability to identify and resolve operational bottlenecks
  • Able to interpret and comprehend applicable SSP’s, MDD’s, SDD’s and Department Job Aides
  • Ability to make quick, informed decisions under pressure and tight deadlines
