Overview

The Manager of Operations must provide technical/trade direction and overall responsibility for all the Non Nuclear/Nuclear Pipe Shop and Pipe Packaging activities at the Quonset Point facility (QP).  Candidate will be the Resource Manager responsible for all Non Nuclear and Nuclear pipefitting  trades at QP.  Responsibilities will include facility manpower planning and hiring that support contract and schedule requirements.  The individual selected will be responsible for proper trade resource placement throughout the facility as well as training and core competency requirements.  Candidate will support and execute Principles of Operational Excellence - People, Product, Process, Performance and Plant/Equipment.

 

Candidate must have a proven track record in the areas of safety, quality, cost, schedule, process improvement and communications.  Must have effective problem solving skills.  Individual selected will be responsible for project management, controlling overhead and direct budgets/EAC and managing daily operations.

 

Candidate must be able to promote a positive team environment and be highly motivated with strong interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to interact with all levels of management, the customer and Human Resources in resolving employee issues and to ensure EEO and OSHA compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities of an Operations Manager:

 

Product/ Services:

  • Coordinate with external customers and internal partners/stakeholders
  • Support and execute a department safety plan that promotes and meets company objectives.
  • Deliver quality products/services
  • Achieve quality objectives; apply corrective actions to address deficiencies
  • Achieve cost/schedule objectives; adjust manpower, material and equipment as needed
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement efforts to support program goals
  • Identify production facilities and equipment needs; consult with facility maintenance
  • Provide input to availability of production and non-production material; consult with material planners and facilities

Process:

  • Enforce/comply with safety and environmental programs; monitor trends and ensure compliance; consult with responsible departments
  • Plan for risk identification and responsive mitigation strategies
  • Meet established annual operation, overhead, and capital budgets; consult with program and finance managers
  • Liaison with backshift production managers for pertinent issues and matters related to production facilities, equipment, and procedures; consult with respective Area Superintendents and Operational Supervisors

People:

  • Plan for Human Resource needs through succession planning and talent management; input to the recruiting and selection of new employees; consult with manpower planning and trade resource managers
  • Improve workforce readiness through training and development; collaborate with Resource Managers
  • Improve workforce performance and productivity; establish and communicate expectations; positively motivate the workforce
  • Monitor and improve workplace climate; reinforce desired workforce values behaviors; maintain morale
  • Manage individual performance of Area Superintendents and Operations Supervisors; develop their technical and leadership skills
  • Collaborate with HR to establish pay adjustments and take appropriate disciplinary actions
  • Liaison with backshift production managers for pertinent issues and matters related to their respective workforce and workplace; consult with respective Area Superintendents and Operations Supervisors

This position is IC eligible.

 

This is a SECOND SHIFT position located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years of Supervisory/Management experience in Operations or relevant field
  • Minimum 8 years of piping experience
  • Proficiency with blueprints, MRP, EWP Artemis and EVM 
  • Available to work all shifts including extended hours and weekends as business needs dictate
  • Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the Department of Defense

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science degree
  • 10+ years of Supervisory/Management experience
  • Multiple levels of management experience
  • Nuclear Pipe experience
  • Completion of FLG and/or BLG program(s)
  • Military
