Overview

There’s never been a better time to join the shipbuilding industry. As demand for cutting-edge naval technology grows, General Dynamics Electric Boat is at the forefront—designing, building, and maintaining the most advanced submarines in the world. Our work is mission-critical, supporting the U.S. Navy and strengthening national security.

About Department 422 Integrated Logistics Support

The D422 Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) organization supports all non-nuclear Electric Boat submarine programs for the OHIO Replacement Program (COLUMBIA Class) and VIRGINIA Class. The six (6) discipline groups that provide the support include: Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) groups comprised of System Safety and Software Safety, Obsolescence Management Team (OMT), Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM), Ship Specification Development, Stowages, and Systems Integration.

Role Overview

The Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Department (D422) has an opening for an Engineer to support Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) tasking on current and future submarine programs.

RAM tasking plays an important role in the development, evaluation, verification and validation of the solution created by the Design-Build-Sustain (DBS) process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish RAM design goals from platform requirements using computer modeling, simulation and allocation.
  • Develop RAM system boundaries to support a specific function in support of a mission.
  • Develop system and component level RAM predictions based on selected design solutions.
  • Evaluate Fleet maintenance data to develop mean time between failures (MTBF).
  • Analyze failure modes and impact on mission and safety requirements.
  • Evaluate design testing and construction issues to support reliability growth analysis (RGA) and provide assurance that requirements are being met.
  • Complete RAM studies as part of DBS evaluation of trade space and assessment of alternatives.
  • Formulate inputs to downstream ILS processes that influence ship operating procedures, maintenance plans, and logistics support.

The selected individual will support RAM efforts for multiple programs in a variety of capacities; perform RAM tasks with minimal oversight, once trained in RAM methods and processes; and interface with responsible System Integration Team (SIT), DBS Team, and RAM Process Integration Team (PIT) personnel on a regular basis.
