Overview

The Stern Area System (SAS) and TSMS team has seen significant growth over the past few years and has an opening for an experienced engineer.   

 

D440 is a unique engineering organization with a range of responsibilities.  Specific projects will include supporting shipboard construction and integration, test procedure development and preparation, and supporting the fleet with troubleshooting once the systems are in use. 

 

In this construction support role, engineers will interface with engineers of various disciplines, Electric Boat management, Electric Boat Program Offices, Navy Laboratories, SUPSHIP, NAVSEA, Ships Force and ISEA.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Civil, Marine, Structural Engineering, Engineering Technologies, Electronics, or Computer Science
  • 5+ years of post graduate professional engineering experience
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret clearance

Preferred:

  • Knowledge in or ability to learn how read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical diagrams construction drawings, equipment drawings, and vendor equipment manuals and be familiar with shipbuilding specifications, technical manuals and other source documentation
  • Interest in learning about or had experience with electromechanical systems
  • Experience in developing test procedures
  • Experience in integration and test of complex systems
  • Experience in ship construction
  • Experience in system level testing and troubleshooting

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to adjust and work to priorities in a shifting environment     
  • Ability to function independently as well as work in a multi‐discipline team environment
  • Ability to work in laboratory and production environments
  • Ability to travel at moments notice, typically less than 25% of the time, but could be more and possibly international travel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn and adapt to tasks that are outside of one’s knowledge base
