Overview

The next step in support of the Virginia Class and Columbia Class construction process is executing “Build to EB Paper” in a Strategic Partnership environment at a supplier facility. General Dynamics Electric Boat is seeking experienced Operations Supervisors to support second shift operations as part of the Embedded Team located in Jacksonville, Florida. This effort supports Virginia and Columbia Class Deck fabrication activities.

 

This position will supervise and oversee second shift work execution, fabrication means and methods, and embedded supplier personnel operating as part of the EB Strategic Partnership model. The Operations Supervisor will manage Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule, and Continuous Improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with all EB processes, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

 

The Operations Supervisor will be responsible for developing and reinforcing strong work practices, maintaining EB culture and standards during second shift operations, supporting process improvements, and ensuring assigned personnel maintain required qualifications and training records within the established training system.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  •  Maintain active second shift deck plate presence and provide direct oversight of production activities supporting Virginia and Columbia Class programs.
  • Must possess an energetic, positive attitude and be willing to adapt and evolve as operational requirements dictate.
  • Supervise technical work execution, quality, cost, schedule performance, continuous improvement efforts, and lessons learned.
  • Position will be permanently located in Jacksonville, Florida supporting Strategic Partnership (“Build to EB Paper”) operations at supplier facilities.
  • Ensure transfer of EB knowledge, standards, means, and methods to supplier supervision and embedded personnel.
  • Actively guide, mentor, and reinforce EB expectations during execution of work.
  • Ensure Safety and Quality remain top priorities during all second shift operations.
  • Ensure all QA functions, including NDT activities, are performed by authorized EB personnel or properly trained embedded supplier personnel.
  • Sign off on Work Order Operations and Work Order Package completion, validating all work is compliant and supports intended product use.
  • Train, coach, mentor, and oversee Electronic Record Signatures (ERS) associated with fit-up, welding, VT, and additional production functions.
  • Conduct job hazard analyses and ensure employees understand how to safely execute assigned work within established expectations.
  • Provide training and mentoring to embedded supplier operations supervision utilizing EB standards and expectations.
  • Ensure all required materials, tools, work orders, and documentation are available to support production execution.
  • Promote and maintain a strong security posture among embedded supplier personnel and ensure proper handling of sensitive information.
  • Build trust and collaboration with supplier management and embedded personnel while identifying opportunities for workforce development and proficiency improvement.
  • Monitor behavioral or performance concerns and coordinate with supplier supervision for appropriate resolution.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with employees, leadership, and cross-functional teams.
  • Establish, assign, and measure daily production goals while providing technical expertise, instruction, mentoring, and crew motivation.
  • Successful applicants will be placed based on business necessity and operational requirements.

Qualifications

Required: 

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of Steel fabrication/shipfitting or structural welding experience
  • Must be available to support second shift operations, extended hours, weekends, and off-shift production requirements as business needs dictate
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense 

Preferred:

  • Technical School training and/or Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or related discipline
  • VT 3.10 qualification or demonstrated ability to obtain qualification
  • Completion of the DLDP Supervisor Program or willingness to attend
  • MDU graduate preferred
  • Navy/Military experience preferred

Skills

  • Good organizational, presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to interact with various levels of subcontractors and EB employees in the organizations
  • Must possess strong PC skills including proficiency with the MS Office suite & Lotus Notes. 
  • Proficiency in blueprint and drawing interpretation
  • Experience with Ships Drawings, SSPs, SPs, MDDs, Technical Manuals, Welding Technique Sheets, EWP, ERS, ERs, NDT, DIs and SIs. Computer Skills, Word, Power Point, Cornerstone Training Records
  • Proficiency in blueprint and drawing interpretation
