Department 482 Electrical Systems is looking for highly motivated engineers to oversee the development and integration of multiple VIRGINIA Class submarine electrical/electronic systems: camera and light system, hydraulic indication and control systems, communications system, and secondary propulsion system.
Department 482 Electrical Systems Engineers will interface with:
- Electric Boat organizations:
- Other electrical system engineers (Electrical, Combat Weapons, and Waterfront Engineering) and designers for power distribution, instrumentation, monitoring and control systems, and communications
- Other engineering and design disciplines (Fluid systems, Structural, Mechanical, EMC, Shock/Vibe, Ventilation and Arrangements)
- Shipyard trade organizations
- Program office
- Procurement
- Planning
- External organizations
- Vendors
- Supervisor of Shipbuilding Groton (SOSG)
- Various Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) organizations and their subcontractors
This work involves:
- Developing written correspondence, technical papers and presentations
- System/component development, plans, and schedules
- Hardware, software and interface requirement specifications
- Develop/review of procurement specifications and subcontractor statements of work to ensure requirement traceability to ship and system requirements
- Selecting components and cables for use within system or parts within component
- Support 3D product model development, review, approval and product issue through each of the Concept, Arrangement and Detail Design activities
- Review of associated design products (examples include but not limited to: Assembly & Detail Drawings (A&D), Cabling Diagrams (CADs), Wiring Tables (WT), Schematic Wiring Diagrams (SWD), cable routing)
- Review test procedures and reports
- Review and develop system/component technical manuals, ship system manuals and operating instructions
- Identification and management of system/component risks
- Managing part obsolescence / lifecycle
Occasional travel will be required for this position.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, OneNote, PowerPoint, Project, Excel and Visio is needed to support this work.
Majority of the job is electrical system engineering: reading requirements, writing requirements, reviewing test procedures, reviewing technical drawings, etc.; minimal software coding and engineering calculations
