The successful candidate will provide technical direction to nuclear engineers, radiological control technicians, and nuclear trades, as well as perform oversight during the planning and execution of nuclear work. Radiological Engineers are the technical authority responsible for ensuring radiological controls requirements and principles are met to protect people and the environment while maintaining radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable.
Duties will include:
- Qualifying as a Nuclear Engineer of radiological Technical Work Documents per NAVSEA 389-0288, Article 109
- Qualifying as a Radiological Engineer
- Developing and reviewing procedures and methods to ensure appropriate radiological controls are directed
- Maintaining the radiological status of home ported and visiting submarines
- Preparing radiological controls agreements
- Providing deck-plate support and oversight of radiological work in the shipyard and at Naval Submarine Base New London
- Investigating radiological problems and sharing learning to prevent or mitigate re-occurrence
- Leading projects for radiological innovation and process improvement
- Coordinating with other naval nuclear program shipyards and labs to maintain and improve corporate radiological controls procedures
