Overview

The Workforce Development team supports workforce readiness by developing and maintaining skilled trades pipeline programs throughout CT, RI, and beyond.  Over the next decade, Electric Boat (EB) will be hiring thousands of tradesmen and tradeswomen and our new hire trades pipelines play an important first step along the training continuum.  Our pipelines work hand in hand with institutes of higher education to leverage industrial lab space and deploy innovative instructional techniques to help build our future workforce.  The Workforce Development team seeks to add a motivated and dynamic team member to help coordinate this program.    

 

Program strategy development and implementation includes:

  • Working with local college partners to establish and maintain pipeline programs
    • Total of 32 programs (CT, RI, Focus Factories)
  • Working with operations and other departments to understand their training needs for pipelines
  • Curriculum adjustments for pipeline programs
  • Providing key metrics as needed to internal and external partners
  • Communication with internal training organization
  • Develop and deploy business presentations to different groups within the company

Tactical responsibilities include:

  • Oversight of HR issues and safety reporting
  • Maintenance of training schedule
  • Maintenance of on-line new hire database
  • Maintenance of competency report and assessment packaging in pipelines
  • Delivery of short presentations to new training cohorts to provide guidance and set expectations regarding attendance, safety, behavior, etc.
  • Administration of course evaluations to collect data on training programs
  • Gathering and reporting of program data
  • Proctoring focus groups as needed
  • Daily travel across RI and CT to partner sites and shipyard sites

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Public Administration, Public Relations, Business, Communications, or English
  • 2+ years of experience in program coordination, training coordination, workforce development, or education administration.
  • 2+ years of experience maintaining schedules, databases, or administrative records for programs or trainings.
  • 1+ year of experience preparing and delivering brief presentations to groups.
  • Willingness to travel within driving distance up to 33% of the time and outside of New England as needed

Preferred:

  • Experience in manufacturing, supply chain or distribution.
  • 2+ years of experience collaborating with external partners such as colleges, training organizations, or community institutions.
  • Experience adjusting or supporting curriculum or competency-based training materials.
  • Experience gathering, analyzing, and reporting training program metrics.
  • Experience developing and delivering business presentations to varied audiences. 
  • Experience overseeing HR-related aspects of training programs (attendance, behavior, safety, etc).

Skills

  • Knowledge of college systems, processes, and practices
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain a flexible schedule, and daily travel between training sites and the Groton shipyard
  • Knowledge of trades and manufacturing
  • Must have client facing experience with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a strong working relationship with different Electric Boat Departments and pipeline partners to ensure proper coordination of initiatives.  
  • Must have good interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Must be well-organized and have a detail oriented approach
  • Proficient use of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet, copier, printer, scanner, and telephone technologies
