Overview

General Dynamics Electric Boat, the nation's premier designer and builder of nuclear submarines, is seeking Employee Transit Operators.

 

Employee Transit Operators will be responsible for safely transporting Electric Boat employees along pre-planned routes, both to and from the shipyard and various off-site parking lots. Transit Operators will operate 44 -passenger 'school bus' style vehicles.

Key responsibilities:

  • Operate 44-passenger buses to transport employees along designated routes 
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle before transporting passengers or material
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local traffic laws and transit regulations
  • Assist passengers by answering route inquiries, announcing stops and maintaining an order environment
  • Communicate route delays, traffic disruptions and emergencies with Transportation Supervisor

Other duties may include:

  • Operate a stake-body dual-axle truck to pick up and deliver material in the shipyard 
    • The ability to safely secure and transport material
  • Operate a shuttle vehicle (under 14-passenger bus)
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant driving experience
  • A Valid CDL Class B with Passenger (P) endorsement (must present document if selected for the position)
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Must pass a DOT medical Physical Exam and obtain a valid Medical Certificate (must present document if selected for the position)
  • Willing to work extended hours
  • Must be available to work all shifts

Preferred:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant driving experience 
  • Experience operating commercial buses, shuttle vehicles, or material handling trucks
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle safety protocols and material securement procedures
  • Military experience
  • Shipyard experience 

Skills

  • Ability to manage passengers and stay composed 
  • Clear verbal communication with passengers and supervision
  • Situational awareness and vigilance to monitor road hazards and surrounding traffic patterns
