Delivering one COLUMBIA and two VIRGINIA class submarines each year is critical to our nation's defense, and Electric Boat needs experienced Industrial Engineers to help us achieve this mission.


The Industrial Engineering Organization provides mission-critical support to leadership and functional organizations through implementation of the Electric Boat Production System, development and management of improvement strategies, measurement of performance impacts, and establishment of processes that enable simultaneous construction of both submarine classes.


As an Industrial Engineer (IE) at our Quonset Point facility, you will work directly on the manufacturing floor with Operations Management (Managers, Superintendents, and Supervisors), and Production Control Planners. You will help establish stable, repeatable production processes, resolve daily manufacturing constraints, and implement improvements that enhance safety, quality, cost, and schedule performance. This role is hands-on and highly collaborative, with shared ownership of manufacturing performance alongside operations leadership.


Key Responsibilities

  • Directly support Operations to ensure that the production processes and unit operations are run at optimum conditions.
  • Provide daily operational troubleshooting and problem solving on emergent issues.
  • Analyze and resolve production problems.
  • Evaluate and maintain production process capability and provide documented OQE to ensure processes are efficient and capable of achieving production goals.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for improved technology and equipment.
  • Monitor overall process operations and develop solutions to a broad range of technical problems applying industrial engineering and/or lean manufacturing principles and concepts.
  • Develop manufacturing processes for new products (COLUMBIA and/or VIRGINIA) as applicable.
  • Study and recommend process improvements to increase productivity, improve quality and reduce waste.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience identifying production or process issues and implementing improvements using Lean Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience in a complex industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Experience providing direct engineering support on the production floor.
  • Experience analyzing production metrics and process capability.

Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be capable of working both independently and in a team environment
  • A highly motivated problem solver who is well organized with strong project management skills
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate manufacturing processes
  • Thorough understanding of production metrics and process capability
  • Ability to interface with various levels of employees and influence change
