Overview

This position reports directly to the Nuclear Operations Manager – New Construction and will assume lead role for the supporting functions of Nuclear Ship’s Management (NSM), assist Project Managers in driving submarine production and facilitate widespread improvements across the nuclear new construction family of departments in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment.

 

Primary responsibility is the support of NSM’s mission in planning and execution of nuclear production work for new construction ships. The individual is responsible for the department’s continued improvement in managing new construction work and teaming with fellow production shops to solve work-flow problems.

 

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Organize, develop and track ready for test requirements for NSM deckplate leads
  • Lead, document and/or otherwise support investigations associated with deckplate / team learning sessions and Critiques/IRs.
  • Capture lessons learned and debrief key work activities to improve VCS performance.
  • Drive process improvements with trade collaboration to completion.
  • Interface and effectively communicate with management from various departments (e.g., Operations, Nuclear Test, RadCon, Inspection, Engineering, Ship’s Force, RPCO, and NRRO) to improve nuclear work activity performance and participate in shipyard-wide problem resolution.
  • Manage department quality functions such as surveillances, audit responses and assessments
  • Track and manage nuclear material deficiencies

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2-years Operations experience in a Planning, Trade, Engineering or Finance Capacity

Preferred:

  • Manufacturing, Shipbuilding and Leadership experience
  • Experience in surveillance programs and metrics development/assessment
  • Bachelor’s Degree

Skills

  • Strong computer, written and verbal skills
  • Individual must be able to operate independently and within team environments
  • Strong analytical, organization and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret ship drawings
  • Knowledge of management tools, i.e. Microsoft Office Suite
  • Previous experience investigating and resolving problems
