Overview

The Integrated Power Systems (IPS) directorate is seeking a motivated Entry-Level Engineer to support the construction and testing of propulsion and electrical power systems for COLUMBIA Class submarines. This role provides an opportunity to contribute directly to delivering ship systems that operate reliably “the first time, every time” while gaining experience in shipyard operations and electrical power systems in a collaborative engineering environment. This position will be on 2nd shift.


What You Will Do as an Entry-Level Engineer – IPS

  • Support trades and waterfront personnel in the construction and testing of IPS equipment
  • Assist in identifying issues on the deck plate and contribute to developing timely solutions
  • Work closely with Waterfront Engineers and IPS component/system owners to ensure alignment across engineering activities
  • Participate in power systems readiness meetings and help verify that construction processes and construction requirements are properly captured
  • Help prepare and maintain technical documentation, reports, and work instructions
  • Communicate with shipyard personnel to gather information, understand construction needs, and resolve technical questions
  • Learn Electric Boat processes, procedures, and core values
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by documenting lessons learned and supporting follow-ship enhancements

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • B.S. in Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline
  • 0-5 years post-graduate engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the U.S. DoD (candidate must be U.S. citizen)


Preferred qualifications: 

  • Familiarity with electrical power systems, power distribution, or electric drive equipment
  • Prior internship or co-op experience in a technical, engineering, or shipyard environment
  • Projects involving electrical machines, power electronics, or system integration
