Senior NDT Engineer – New Technologies Team
Electric Boat’s Nondestructive Test (NDT) Engineering department is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join the NDT New Technologies Team (NTT). This team drives the advancement of inspection capabilities by researching, developing, qualifying, and deploying emerging nondestructive technologies such as Phased‑Array Ultrasonics, advanced imaging systems, digital radiography platforms, real‑time sensing technologies, and next‑generation automated inspection tools.
The Senior Engineer will lead high‑impact R&D programs aimed at introducing cutting‑edge inspection solutions into Electric Boat’s manufacturing and shipyard environments, supporting submarine construction at Groton and Quonset Point. This role requires strong technical judgment and the ability to shape Electric Boat’s future inspection strategy by evaluating new commercial products, advanced instrumentation, digital analytics tools, and novel inspection concepts.
Senior Engineers interface with cross-functional engineering teams, NDT personnel, manufacturing and operations subject matter experts, and Electric Boat’s Navy customer to transition innovations from initial concept through full-scale deployment. This position provides significant opportunities for technical leadership and strategic influence in the modernization of submarine inspection technologies.

Responsibilities
• Lead major NDT R&D projects, including technology selection, test plan development, execution, data analysis, documentation, and qualification recommendations
• Identify emerging commercial and defense technologies and assess their applicability to naval shipbuilding and high‑reliability welded structures
• Develop detailed R&D proposals, statements of work, schedules, test matrices, and specification recommendations
• Evaluate advanced NDT system capabilities, determining compliance with NAVSEA specifications and proposing modifications when necessary
• Present technical results, findings, and recommendations to senior leadership and Navy customer representatives
• Drive implementation strategies for new NDT technologies across Electric Boat shipyards, ensuring cost, schedule, and quality benefits
• Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on R&D methodology, inspection science, and technical writing
• Contribute to long‑term technology roadmaps for submarine construction programs
