The ideal candidate should have experience in analytical chemistry working to government approved methods.  A background in State of CT DEEP environmental discharge regulations a plus. Must be available to work off-shift when required. The candidate will be required to frequently access the Ships and Shipyard Construction areas. This work can be physically demanding requiring the individual to carry sampling equipment throughout the shipyard and aboard submarines in all weather conditions. The individual must be capable of entering confined and enclosed spaces, able to climb ladders and stairs and able to work at heights. The candidate will be cross-trained in additional areas as needed.

This position requires candidates with the capability to apply electronic and digital systems skills to computer-based test instrumentation and data acquisition systems, as well as the ability to competently work with high power circuits and circuit protection devices.   In this role as the Manager of Safety and Industrial Hygiene your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:   - Develop, implement and review procedures, policies, facilities, and production safety plans for compliance with State and Federal Occupational Safety & Health requirements. - Analyze injury and hazard data to develop strategies for continued reduction in risk exposure, accidents and injuries. - Administer Electric Boat's Safety Management System to ensure compliance with the requirements of ISO 45001. - Ensure health and safety training for employees, subcontractors and other guests are appropriately administered. - Enforce compliance with safety and health policies, procedures and regulations. - Supervise safety and industrial hygiene department staff and manages department resources and budget. - Prepare and present safety information to senior management, safety committees, operations, and operations support staff. - Prepare Safety and Health performance reports and distributes as required. - Facilitate accident/incident investigations, safety inspections, and safety management system audits. - Interface with departments across the Company, with particular interest on working with the Operations team to improve safety. - Interface with OSHA and other pertinent regulatory agencies as required. - Provide recommendations to management for the improvement of EB's health and safety programs.

Health, Safety & Industrial Hygiene: Reporting to the Manager of Safety and Industrial Hygiene.   In this role the selected candidate will interface with all levels of management, production workers and regulatory personnel to assist in the implementation of and assess compliance to EB's Industrial Hygiene & Safety programs at the Groton, CT Facility.   For this role the selected candidate must possess a good working knowledge of OSHA safety and health standards and in particular, maritime standards. Responsibilities & Duties include but are not limited to: - Be the Subject matter expert (SME) for Electric Boats Hazardous Communication program - Safety Data Sheet(SDS) evaluation and maintenance for vendor-supplied materials - Development and maintenance of in-plant and shipped material - lHazcom labels - Review purchases of new hazardous materials for use at EB - Perform industrial hygiene sampling (Noise, Particulate, Hazardous Materials, Vibration etc.) - Support sampling of painted surfaces and interface with Engineering and Planning on how to safely work these materials - Perform ergonomic evaluations for both in process work and office workers - Review of various objective quality evidence (e.g. Industrial hygiene sample data, training records, Material Safety Data Sheets for materials in use) - Be an active member in deck plate safety and industrial hygiene issues and programs - Conduct periodic surveillances of ships and facilities for Safety/IH deficiencies (including tracking and trending) - Observe in process work to ensure hazards are addressed and proper procedures, tools and PPE are being utilized. - Provide oversight of contractor work both shipboard and non-shipboard, and identify and report deficiencies to the contracting organization. - Participate in accident investigations, analyze safety and health data and develop recommended actions. - Issue written reports to management summarizing findings, recommendations and corrective actions. - Develop and revise safety and health training lesson plans & provide safety and health training as necessary. - Maintain the EB Safety Manual, Industrial Hygiene Programs and support the Contractor's Health and Safety Manual to ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI and ISO 45001 . - Develop and issue Hazard Communication and Safety Bulletins to provide timely and necessary information to the workforce. - Interface with Facilities and Operations personnel on projects to establish safety and industrial hygiene controls. - Interface with regulators on employee complaints, site inspections and other regulatory activities. - Interface with 2 shift safety and health personnel - Work overtime as necessary, provide off-shift and weekend coverage as necessary. - Travel as necessary - Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

D493 – Pressure Hull and External Structures - Engineers are responsible for supporting the detail design and analysis of submarine pressure hull structures including tanks, trunks, and bulkheads as well as structures external to the pressure hull including the bow, sail, super structure, stern, and control surfaces. Responsibilities include structural engineering analysis of equipment foundations, bulkheads, tanks, trunks, hull inserts, and the pressure hull shell and frames, bow and stern main ballast tank structures, external fairing's and control surfaces. Analysis for submergence, fatigue, hydrodynamic flow loads and tank pressurization loads and shock loads (static and dynamic) are performed using state-of-the-art computer models as well as conventional hand calculation methods. Engineering review of the design follows the design development from concept formulation through detailed models to design disclosure in a DesignBuild-Sustain environment as well as construction support during the build phase. Additionally, D493 Engineers will interface with designers and engineers from other disciplines and participate in Navy design reviews. Knowledge of finite element analysis, steel design techniques and/or advanced mechanics of materials is required for these positions.   Electric Boat offers Flexible Work Arrangements that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home.
