Department 413 is seeking highly motivated candidates to support design and development of VIRGINIA Class and next generation submarines. D413 is responsible for fluid systems including hydraulic, auxiliary, habitability and life support, HVAC, seawater and compressed gas systems. These systems are essential to the ability to sustain life underwater, submarine operation, and accomplishment of the ship’s mission. Fluid system engineers are responsible for the design and development of all aspects of these systems from concept development to ship delivery. In addition to the design and development of fluid systems, engineers in D413 are exposed to various aspects of submarine design and operation which provides opportunities for continuous growth, leadership, and advancement as an engineer. Individuals selected for this position will be responsible for development and execution of projects supporting current and future VIRGINIA Class design efforts, design changes, and system improvement tasking. This position requires continued progression of technical and project management skills. Technical Responsibilities: Development of initial system/component requirements and specifications; performing calculations (e. g. pressure drop, flow analyses, heat loads, stress analysis); developing and improving fluid system designs; developing/reviewing system diagrams and drawings; material and equipment selections; resolving emergent design and construction issues; managing system interfaces; developing system operating instructions for ship’s crew, test forms and maintenance procedures. Project Management: Development of budgets and schedules to complete the required technical work in support of achieving program milestones; requirement and interface management with other disciplines, effective written and verbal communication to internal and external customers (e.g. other EB departments, NAVSEA, Ship's Force, private contractors and other shipyards as required). This position is for a Nuclear Test Operations Electrical (NTO-E) Production Radiological Controls (PRC) General Foreman on 2nd Shift. The General Foreman will supervise two to four NTO Operations Supervisors and ten to fifteen NTO Electrical Technicians and has responsibility for the daily operation and maintenance of NTO-E at the EB Shipyard and at SUBASE-NLON. This is unique opportunity as a full-time position at the BAE Systems (BAES) shipyard in the United Kingdom, working within the EB Barrow Field Office (BFO).  You can be part of the Electric Boat team supporting the Dreadnought Class Program!  The primary intent of this position is to liaison with BAES operations and trades, and support the development and execution of the UK Common Missile Compartment (CMC) build plan. The successful applicant will be responsible creating, enhancing and maintaining Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) for multiple submarine system development projects. The Payload Launch Control Special Projects Team is comprised of multi-discipline teams and each require detailed schedules to plan and execute their work. These schedules have numerous dependencies across the EB team, contractors, vendors and the Government. The schedules are linked to create a true integrated schedule. The nature of these projects require continuous monitoring of the critical path, updating status and progress as well as re-planning to mitigate issues that emerge. The IMS is implemented in Microsoft Project. In depth knowledge of Microsoft Project will be required. The candidate will be responsible for developing and reviewing staffing plans directly from the IMS to ensure project schedules are realistic and communicate with management on staffing needs. The successful candidate will analyze resource loaded Microsoft schedules to determine staffing needs.   The department offers flexible working arrangements including part time teleworking. D493 – Pressure Hull and External Structures - Engineers are responsible for supporting the detail design and analysis of submarine pressure hull structures including tanks, trunks, and bulkheads as well as structures external to the pressure hull including the bow, sail, super structure, stern, and control surfaces. Responsibilities include structural engineering analysis of equipment foundations, bulkheads, tanks, trunks, hull inserts, and the pressure hull shell and frames, bow and stern main ballast tank structures, external fairing's and control surfaces. Internal Structures (FWD) Engineers are responsible for detail design, analysis and requirements of all internal structures for the COLUMBIA Class submarine, the nation’s #1 defense program. The successful candidate will lead a small team of on-site Program Representatives at AUSTAL as well as a team at EB’s Eagle Park location in Connecticut.  The successful candidate will work closely with the EB embedded team at AUSTAL as well as with AUSTAL management to achieve programmatic objectives in the areas of Safety, Quality, Schedule, Cost and Continuous Improvement.  The Program Manager will report to the Senior Director of Strategic Sourcing.  The candidate selected must be highly motivated, have strong communication and interpersonal skills, have project management experience, be an effective problem solver with critical thinking skills and must be able to cultivate and promote a positive team environment. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: - Sustain and advance the strategic partnership between EB and AUSTAL - Primary point of contact with AUSTAL and SUPSHIP Gulf Coast - Collaborate with AUSTAL and the EB embedded team to achieve Safety, Quality, Schedule, Cost and Continuous Improvement objectives - Formal identification and documentation of offload scope - Work transfer from EB to AUSTAL - Requisitions supporting purchase order placement - Resource planning, training, on-boarding and proficiency development - Contract performance monitoring - Ensure work performance in-accordance-with with EB’s QMS - Program risk identification, mitigation and implementation of lessons learned - Identify existing or new production facility requirements (capacity, tools, equipment, etc)

The group will support a variety of programs by developing analytical capabilities and performing internal two-phase fluid dynamics and heat transfer analyses.   Key Responsibilities: As the supervisor of this group, you will be responsible for leading a group of approximately 8-15 engineers, reporting to the Department 464 Engineering Manager. The primary area of technical responsibility is in supervising one of the Fluid Dynamics groups. The group performs analysis of fluid flow and thermal problems using custom and commercially available computational tools, and supports multiple classes and programs.   Responsibilities include leading a team to support new design work though calculations, pursuing Independent Research and Development (IRAD) projects, and supporting construction or fleet issues as they arise. The supervisor must be able to balance schedule and budget constraints while maintaining high quality standards in the group. The role will require working in a highly collaborative environment, interfacing with other engineering departments, design groups, program office, subcontractors, NAVSEA, the Office of Naval Research, and the Navy Labs. The role also requires facilitating the exchange of design information within the department and across all technical interfaces.   Specific areas of responsibility include: - Developing a culture of high performance and quality through effective performance management and employee development - Directly coordinate and collaborate with the other Fluid Dynamics supervisor to ensure production efforts meet specified timelines - Supporting fluid system products and executing to program schedules - Personnel training, mentoring, and succession planning - Preservation of critical technical skills and knowledge - Leading, motivating, training and mentoring employees to drive accountability and career development - Understanding and managing hiring and staffing needs, including fishnets and manpower planning - Individual must be able to operate in a collaborative teaming environment, interfacing with various design and engineering departments, operations, subcontractors, and the NAVY customer - Analyzing the group’s needs and identifying specific training requirements (on-the-job training, mentoring, developmental assignments, formal training, external training resources, etc.) - Develop, implement, and maintain department processes - Support ongoing organizational improvement efforts - Build credibility, establish rapport, and maintain communication and relationships with various stakeholders, both internal and external
