Main Machinery Engineer will be responsible for the project management and oversight of design, development, procurement, ship integration, test and repair efforts associated with all submarine classes of main machinery components including propulsion turbines, reduction gears, couplings, bearing systems and control systems.  Engineers will have the opportunity to develop a knowledge base in a wide variety of associated submarine systems, components, and structures in a fast-paced environment of changing issues.   The individual will be required to interface with EB management, Equipment Vendors, Customers (Naval Sea Systems Command), Shipyard Personnel and Ship’s Force.  The individual must have a strong proficiency in all facets of engineering principles associated with rotating machinery and controls.  The individual should have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and procedures and have strong technical writing and communication skills.   Main Machinery Engineering supports submarine construction/overhaul work locally and at off site locations.  Occasional travel, evening, weekend and overtime work are required based on department needs.   Specific tasks of the Main Machinery Engineer include, but are not limited to: - Deck-plate support of shipyard test evolutions and resolution of emergent issues. - Develop, write and peer review technical dispositions. - Evaluate design changes, including performance of calculations when necessary, to ensure compliance with specifications, standards, contractual requirements, etc. - Consult subject matter experts and/or shipyard personnel, when necessary, in the resolution of issues. - Interface with various departments to support design reviews, arrangements, procurement, operations, ship integration, test evolutions and repair efforts. - Managing multiple concurrent tasks with established deadlines.

The group will support a variety of programs by developing analytical capabilities and performing internal two-phase fluid dynamics and heat transfer analyses.   Key Responsibilities: As the supervisor of this group, you will be responsible for leading a group of approximately 8-15 engineers, reporting to the Department 464 Engineering Manager. The primary area of technical responsibility is in supervising one of the Fluid Dynamics groups. In collaboration with the State of Connecticut, Electric Boat offers pre-employment training (EWIB) to get you started on learning the fundamentals of the trade.   To register for EWIB:   https://mpiapplication.ewib.org   Support Services that EWIB provides:  - Attendance Stipends - Transportation Assistance - Mileage Reimbursement (IRS Rate) - Car Based Solutions (car repairs, registration, auto insurance) - Organizing Uber or Taxi rides - Childcare assistance - Clothing or boots - Rent, Utilities, Technology, and other supports ***Not required for current Electric Boat Employees***   Job Responsibilities:   Painters are responsible for:  - Painters preserve the hull and components by sealing the submarines with chemicals and paints that prevent corrosion and protect against the accumulation of marine life.  - Prepare the surface, mix and apply a variety of paints and finishes, such as baked on plastics, vinyl, and epoxy paints.  - Paint thickness must be measured and documented.  This requirement makes it essential that the Painter maintain a high level of quality.  - Candidates must be able to sandblast, use pneumatic tools, roll brush and spray paint. - Candidates must be able to perform strenuous task for long durations  - Must be able to work in confined spaces and elevated areas. - Must be able to obtain respiratory qualifications and maintain them - Willing to travel to support off-site work.  - Must be able to work all shifts.
