This position will require that the engineer perform technology investigations, trade-studies, identify/resolve risks, identify opportunities for cost reductions, and validate methods to ensure producible end products. D471 Commissioned Ships Mechanical Engineering requires an Engineering Supervisor to lead a group of reactor plant structural engineers who provide technical, design and life cycle support to commissioned submarines in the Reactor Plant Planning Yard (RPPY). This group is responsible for reactor plant systems on LOS ANGELES, OHIO, SEAWOLF, and VIRGINIA Class submarines, the S8G Prototype and all Moored Training Ships. D435 Main Propulsion Machinery is in search of a SSN(X) class Propulsor and Shafting Engineer II/Senior/Specialist. Engineers in this group will be responsible for providing high quality and efficient engineering and design services to both the Navy Propulsor and Shafting Team. Engineers will also be responsible for the project management and oversight of design and development of the propulsor and main propulsion shafting components including the main shaft, shaft seals and housings, and bearing systems.   The group will support concept design development and engineering studies for propulsor/shafting-specific programs sponsored by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division and the Office of Naval Research. The group frequently works with other members of the Navy Propulsor and Shafting Team including Electric Boat’s shock, hydrodynamics, and ship signatures departments, Pennsylvania State University Applied Research Laboratory, and Navy laboratories.   Occasional travel to Washington DC or vendor sites may be required.

The successful applicant will be responsible creating, enhancing and maintaining Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) for multiple submarine system development projects. The Payload Launch Control Special Projects Team is comprised of multi-discipline teams and each require detailed schedules to plan and execute their work. These schedules have numerous dependencies across the EB team, contractors, vendors and the Government. The schedules are linked to create a true integrated schedule. The nature of these projects require continuous monitoring of the critical path, updating status and progress as well as re-planning to mitigate issues that emerge. The IMS is implemented in Microsoft Project. In depth knowledge of Microsoft Project will be required. The candidate will be responsible for developing and reviewing staffing plans directly from the IMS to ensure project schedules are realistic and communicate with management on staffing needs. The successful candidate will analyze resource loaded Microsoft schedules to determine staffing needs.   The department offers flexible working arrangements including part time teleworking. Shipyard Test Organization (D272) is seeking highly motivated candidates to lead and instruct STO-Electrical Testers in the safe conduct of Virginia Class Steam and Electric Plant systems, Weapons, and Hull, Mechanical and Auxiliary systems which may include testing on Sea Trials. Overview The LMS Administrator role is responsible for administering all aspects of training activities in Electric Boat’s Learning Management System (LMS). The LMS Administrator provides quality customer service and uses technical expertise to research, analyze, resolve, and respond to basic and complex LMS tasks and issues in Cornerstone on Demand and the Skills Reporter Tool (SRT). The LMS Administration Team supports all Workforce Development training delivery areas as well as training area embedded in business areas at EB outside of Workforce Development.   This position is for the EB West Maintenance & Modernization Site in Bremerton, WA.   Position located in Bremerton, WA. Maintenance and Modernization has an opening for a highly motivated Electrical Operations Supervisor to support delivered ship work at the EB West site.  This position is for an Electrical Operations Supervisor tasking may also require the ability to provide daily direction and technical assistance to a multi-disciplined crew, as required (e.g. Electricians, Shipfitters, Welders, Machinist, Sheetmetal workers, etc.) of up to 17 tradesmen.  The Electrical Operations Supervisor will manage the performance of the group’s Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule, and Continuous Improvement as well as be responsible for the administration and execution of the craft’s work paper (ie. Work orders, EWP, ERS, TGIs, DLs, ERs, Unsats, Test Forms, etc).    The selected individual shall interface with on-site Ops Supervision, General Foreman, Engineering, Ships’ Management and other off-site organizations. The Electrical Operations Supervisor shall be responsible for developing good work practices along with process improvements, and ensure assigned personnel conform to all regulatory and EB requirements. Travel to other shipyards in the continental United States is required. The successful candidate will be expected to know, comply with and participate in site improvement goals for Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule and Continuous Improvement

Overhaul and Repair Engineering (Department 474) is a multi-disciplined team that consists of Systems, Structural, and Electrical engineering groups. The team provides written technical direction, deck-plate engineering support, and planning support to Shipyard Operations for maintenance, modernization and repairs on all classes of US Navy nuclear submarines. The team works primarily on delivered, in-service ships and occasionally on ships in new construction. The team supports work accomplished at the EB Groton shipyard as well as off-site shipyard or submarine base locations.    This position will support propulsion plant electrical systems and equipment (i.e. reactor plant instrumentation and control systems, power distribution switchboards and circuit breakers, microprocessor based instrumentation and control equipment, electromagnetic controllers, transformers, bus transfer devices and control stations).   Responsibilities required of the propulsion plant electrical test engineer include, but are not limited to, the following: - Planning of submarine maintenance and modernization work. This includes the development of work breakdown structures and writing/peer reviewing technical work documents. - Interpretation and translation of shipbuilding specifications, maintenance requirements, and contractual requirements. - Deck-plate support and resolution of emergent issues. Ability to work in shipyard environment and onboard ships is required. - Development of technical rationale to support approval of nonconforming conditions. - Collaboration with engineers of other disciplines, Operations, Design, Planning Yard, Test, and Program Office personnel in order to arrive at innovative solutions to difficult problems. - Interact with the United States Navy (USN) customer, including the Supervisor of Shipbuilding Groton (SOSG), Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), and submarine crews. - Provide engineering support to the controlled industrial facilities and the Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department located at Electric Boat and Naval Submarine Base New London. Strong written and verbal communication skills are utilized and fostered. A hands-on, proactive, schedule-driven engineering approach is the norm. Awareness and understanding of military specifications, submarine shipbuilding specifications and design criteria, USN maintenance/overhaul requirements, and special emphasis programs are developed through mentoring and training.
